Baking Great Bread at Home

Just because we're locked in doesn't mean that we have to feel locked up. Why don't we use this time to better ourselves, to learn something new or just get better at it. You know what I'm talking about. It's finally time to learn to bake delicious bread at home and you'll be surprised how easy it is.

So here's the plan. We put together a Facebook group and schedule times for a class we all pull out the same equipment the same ingredients and work on the same recipe. We will learn to mix dough. Stretch and fold, coil folds and Traditional kneading. Equipment that will come in handy are a KitchenAid mixer, if you don't have one, we will be covering doing it by hand. A large bowl for mixing and proofing, King Arthur all purpose flour. If you can't find king Arthur a good all purpose flour will do. King Arthur bread flour or whatever you have. We will be using all purpose flour first, and a dough scraper. If I can stop here and make a point. If you are the least bit serious about baking bread or anything else, you need to have a scale. Baking is a science and the scale will make your life much easier and much more accurate which is important. The other things we need we will discuss as we know what everyone's working with. A cast-iron skillet with the large dome top or a Dutch oven would be great. If no Dutch oven, a pizza stone will do. If you have no pizza stone then the bottom of a baking tray with do. Don't let a lack of equipment slow you down. My grandmother had none of it and made delicious bread.

Now it's up to you. Pass the word yeah, to your friends who don't know us or what we are doing. This little bit of socializing can make all the difference in the world for some people. Get your kids involved, i'll teach them to maintain your starter and we will have a blast. The best thing about baking is, we get to eat our mistakes.
